Since I received some requests about the work process, here we go with an old piece I did for DC. This is a card for a Green Lantern card game.
I'm usually pretty raw and quick with lay-outs...I use them just to see how the composition works.
In this case, I did a clear pencil to render the sketch, but actually I use to ink over layouts. I know it makes the job "harder", but it helps me not to loose the energy of the piece. When I was younger, I did hyper clear pencils before inking by myself...Now, I find it pretty useless if YOU are going to ink, and somebody else.
As you'll see, I changed a lot from the first lay-out, but it happened when I inked the bigger figures...I noticed the image was going to be toooo cropped (this draw it's really small...and I knew they'd have printed it much more smaller!!!)!!!

I know I've to make a lot of experience...but It's pretty good to learn from mistakes!

Hope you'll enjoy it!

This is a cover I did for my dear friend
TIM SEELEY.
Months ago, he asked me to make a cover for his new crazy project: JESUS Vs. VAMPIRES...I was like:"uhm?!??!-uhm...u....uhm...............hu.....um......Well, ok"

So I ended up with this piece (the first painted cover I did!!!).

He gave me a quick lay-out, and I started painting.

I suggest you to follow Mr.Tim on his projects...He's so damn talented!!! He has always an original POV when he tells stories.A great writer and a good artist.

We started collaborating with HACK/SLASH and we fell in love with each other, and now we're goin' to be married on the big screen, when our baby sees the first CIAK in Hollywood.

Well done bro...you still owe me a LOOOOT of beers...and just 1 copy of this comic book!

Since I posted 2 characters from DEFEX, I've chosen to post 3 pages of the comic book.
It was really funny to make...when I had to invent new chars, for a new comic book, I drew without conditionings. And that's great!
Most of the "wanna be" comic artists out there, should know how hard this job is.
You've to respect deadlines....even if the deadline means:"give me the book in 20 days, please".
You've to do the job on time: that's all. And you can't think so much about composition, storytelling etc...you've just to put your pencil on a paper and PRODUCE.
That's frustrating....but a great challenge.
All the big names out there can't menage a monthly book. They have much more time than a newcomer. And this is where you've to fight. You've to show to your editors they can count on you...You've to become the guy who CAN make the job on time...ALWAYS.
It works for the USA market...concerning France, artists have almost 1 year to complete just an issue of 48 pages...and it means QUALITY.
Jhon Buscema said:"When you work for the American market, you CAN'T produce the best you can...You can produce as you can"

I'd love to make a tale...I'll post other studies with this style...

Another sketch I did for a great person...
She's the director of a comic school here in Italy. She invited me to speak with students, and I was more than happy to meet the class!
It was a great experience...It's always a pleasure to meet people in love for comic books, and for this strange/hard job.

Good luck guys, don't give up!

Today, no drawings...Just this pic.

She's Lamù, a lil sweet cat I found. SHE was crying, surrounded by some crazy kids ready to torture her...

I looked for her mom, but nothing...she was alone.
Since I've got another cat, I chose to keep this little creature and save a life.
I spent a week awake to give Lamù the milk she needed. I chose to give up the idea of getting some days of relax to take care of her.

Now she's running around my flat...and I've got a silly smile on my face.
I may look romantic or emo, but belive me, these little things can make a guy like me deeply happy.

When I've got some room between issues, I like to make experiments with digital painting.
I'm not so expert, but I really like to try new things and techniques!

This was done pretty quickly, as you can see by the rendering...but what I wanted to do, was to play with lights..

Joker is my favourite villain...I imagine him more like a demon than an human...If I met him in the dark, I'd wet my pants!
I tried to visualize this scary guy...and honestly,I think this picture is pretty creepy!!!

I wanna paint a big, bold batman ready to fight with him...Uhm...I've already something in my mind....

Cya!

These are 2 commissions I did some months ago..Jack and Mia from Defex (Devil's Due Publishing), a series written by the legendary Marv Wolfman and colored by the super talented Sunder Raj (yes this is his real name...keep an eye on him, he'll be a big star soon!).
I loved these guys and, who knows, maybe a day I'll find myself drawing 'em again!
